Good questions are open-ended and don't have yes-no answers. For ex, "what is my work situation going to be like in the next six months" is better than "will I get a promotion?" It's also good for situations where you have conflicting paths ahead of you and need to know what's beneficial. But any area of your life that you might ask a friend for advice on is generally good.
