- Have you read Casting On by Chandri? Because if you love Jessica Fletcher and Rodney McKay, you should get on that posthaste.

- You know how you hear about a story forever, and you finally read it and it's as good as everybody says it is? So Jeeves and the Tennis Coach by out_there? It is that good. The voice is perfect.

- I love AUs so much, particularly the ones where they're artists of one stripe or another, for some reason, so Depth of Field by Lamardeuse really hit the spot.

And a request, flist: What are your comfort reads? I am looking for fluffy, comforting things to read before bed. Things with romance. Maybe Harlequin AUs. IDK. Anything could happen.

I have so many, but here's a recent fave. A Dangerous Desire, SGA Regency AU by Janne-D. It's Harlequin as hell, but it has just enough bitter to balance the sweet: Rodney is terrified of being outed, marriage is about property and social position, little else but money can buy freedom. Still, it's mostly light and lovely and satisfying.

Or Something Like It by semivowel makes me happy every time, not least because it has one of my favorite passages ever:

“I like Halling,” says John slowly, pushing a piece of meatloaf around on his plate. “But if I have to listen to him give another three hour speech I might be tempted to put a fork through my hand. Also, I really don’t like ceremonies. All the ones in Pegasus kind of remind me of funerals. That and the first day of school. We moved a lot when I was a kid. So there were a lot of first days of school. Every time I have to sacrifice a goat, or bang a gong three times with my left hand, or wrap a ritual tuber in a ritual blanket I kinda get that funeral/first day of school feeling: nervous and a little nauseous, and like somebody died.”

runpunkrun has written some that always make me feel warm and cheered up. The King of Atlantis and Caught, especially the teaminess of Caught ♥.

cupidsbow's Happily Ever After, Rodney is Atlantis's own Cinderella ♥

kageygirl's Verb, Transitive from back in the day has a great development of the love story, with a John who's pining in a low-key, believable way.

"She's Athosian," John said, enjoyed the way Brock slapped a hand on his forehead and groaned.

"Athosian, Amazonian, Ah-hot-chacha," leered Dr. Venture.

Ooh, thanks for these! And I wish I had seen this last night, I would've sent you to my Comfort Recs post from last year's solstice calendar. They're pretty well-worn, though. I need to read up and do another recs post.
