Tarot and you (or, idk, someone else)
Jan. 13th, 2019 07:17 pmIn 2018, I decided that one of the (few) things I missed about Christianity was doing devotionals. If you're not familiar, these are daily lessons, usually done solo, using one of the multitude of books available for this purpose. I missed setting aside a piece of my day for contemplation. I'm not good at non-mandatory routines; I tend to go go go right up until bed and then just pass out. I always did my devotionals before bed, and I missed that unwinding time. Devotionals were also important to me because I learned a lot from them; I missed taking a regular chunk of time out of my day to study something I cared about.
At the same time, I was also looking to get back into tarot. One of the problems I always had was that I didn't know the Minor Arcana well enough to read without a book, because my main deck uses pip cards instead of pictorial cards. I wanted to be able to read well enough that, pips or not, I could conduct a reading all on my own.
So these things came together, and I decided to do a tarot devotional. Because I'm just like that, I also decided I was going to write the devotionals myself, to get that extra level of practice. I rounded up some friends to do it with me, and after we were brilliantly christened the Pentacle Monsters, I got down to writing.
And now, my devotional series is complete! I'm putting them out into the world for anyone who's interested in using or just perusing them, so please enjoy. Most of my basis comes from The New Complete Book of Tarot by Juliet Sharman-Burke, with my own sort of spin on it; they're also influenced by my main deck, The Tarot of the Dead, and my study deck, The International Icon Tarot. They do go in the order listed below, as they're written as a set.
The Major Arcana
Week 1 (The Fool - The Hierophant)
Week 2 (The Lovers - Justice)
Week 3 (The Hanged Man - The Tower)
Week 4 (The Star - The World)
The Minor Arcana
Number cards
Pentacles
Swords
Wands
Cups
Court cards
As far as using them, I've been doing one card a day for the Majors and two cards a day for the Minors; I print them all out and tape them into a notebook, then write my thoughts about them longhand. Feel free to do as you will with them, though. There's no real speed in which to undertake them; I organized the Majors into weeks so as to have a logical division instead of a big block, but no one's going to come around and check if you take more or less time.
But please enjoy!
