So there's this meme going around where you sort your AO3 fics by hits (yes you can do this automatically, which I did not know, and I spent a couple minutes sitting around going "BUT HOW WOULD I EVER HAVE THE TIME") and analyze the top ten. So, here we go!

1. Nice Place to Visit, SGA, John/Rodney, 1076

2. You're All I Ever Wanted (But I'm Terrified of You), SGA, John/Rodney, 991

3. you will be my one last chance, SGA/Iron Man, John/Tony, 975

4. Fever High, SGA, John/Meredith, 916

5. Rainy Day, SGA, John/Rodney, 818

6. Putting Them On (The Prior Knowledge Remix), NCIS, Tim/Tony, 810

7. Like a Beggar for Its Touch, SGA, John/Meredith, 778

8. Seven Hours and Fifteen Days, SGA, John/Meredith, 738

9. better knock me down, Inception, Ariadne/Eames/Arthur, 732

10. Another Notch in My Lipstick Case, SGA, John/Meredith, 728

Wow, that is not what I expected.

4, 7, 8, and 10 surprise me not at all, as the John/Mer stuff was wildly popular (comparatively speaking) when it was written.

2 and 6 are also somewhat unsurprising, as they're both connected to Remix Redux. 2 was remixed by [livejournal.com profile] deelaundry and was quite popular, and the story was a Secret Santa fic to start with. 6 is more surprising, because the NCIS fandom is not that big, but again: Remix.

The other four? Not what I expected at all. I'm not real surprised to see an Inception story on there, but I expected to see tonight I'm a hurricane, which was my most popular Inception fic on LJ (and which did make the top 20). But, it could be that everybody just read it on LJ. On that note, several other stories that were very popular on LJ- especially Four Blatant Lies and Public Timeline, which are my most popular stories to date- are missing from this list, for reasons I think are similar.

3 is also kind of strange. I mean, out of the three hundred stories I have up there, who expected the Iron Man/SGA crossover? But, I guess, lots of people from both fandoms to look at it. Plus it's got (awesome) art by [personal profile] mashimero with it, which may have enticed more people.

1 and 5 are the ones that really shocked me! I always think of Nice Place to Visit as an unpopular story, because I've gotten maybe forty comments on it ever, and that was before the big downturn in SGA commenting*, AND it garnered the most unfavorable review I've ever gotten on one of my stories (but in fairness, that chick crazy). I guess it makes sense that people went on to the next story from there, and Rainy Day also had some success as a stand-alone.

So, there you go. Things I thought would make a difference that didn't: getting recced; having been posted when written (as opposed to being in the big backdated updates I did). Things I didn't think about that made a difference: being listed in the series section and thus permanently on the front page (as all but 2, 6, and 9 are).

And that's the AO3.

*You want evidence of the decline in SGA fandom? I last posted on Wraithbait in June 2009. My biggest hit count there? 10311. Damn.
