Hmmmm, how about... The Empty Bowl. A relationship Rodney had with someone in the SGC before John. Or if he didn't, then sometime during or just after the dysfunctional relationship he tells John about. Or, I'm all about options here, a D/s scene between John and Rodney after the events of the story.

He didn't help Sam back into her clothes. He should have, should have laced up her boots for her or helped her into her jacket; he wanted to, but when she looked at him with her bright, happy smile, all he could think about was folding up at her feet, letting her have anything she wanted so long as he could just see that face.

What he'd wanted, really wanted, was right in his hands, and he couldn't have it at all.

He snapped his fingers, said something stupid and mean, looked away so that he wouldn't have to see that smile slide off her face.

She turned away, fastening the last of her buttons. "Just leave the money on the nightstand," she muttered.

Rodney held up a finger, intent on demanding an explanation, but halfway through he realized he knew already, knew exactly.

He left before she could say another word.
